The first items for the creation of the Public Library collection were gathered during the interwar period with the concession of about 400 books by the then Metropolite of Messinia, Meletios, and of about 1,100 other books by the Middle School of Kalamata. During its 82 years of operation, the Library received small and large donations. The most important of these were by the following: Metropolitan Ezekiel of Thessaly, Georgios Ventiris, Mr. D. Georgoulis, Stavros Kostopoulos, Yannis Anapoliotis, Konstantinos Kiskiras, Panagiotis Papatheodorou, Daphne Kostopoulou, Anastasios Lachanas.
